JWT launches first ever Foosballympics

Two weeks ago, all you could hear people talking about at work was fooseball, fooseball, fooseball! “What’s your team name?” people would ask. “May uniforms na ba kayo?”, “Oh my gosh, hindi ako magaling!” “Ang daya naman, partners si ____ at ____!”

With all the excitement leading up to the official launch, we couldn’t help but get all giddy ourselves. And boy, with what the jPod Foobus had in store for us last August 15, 2008, were we in for a surprise!

At around 5 pm, representatives from each department kicked off the event by parading around the office amidst hoots and cheers from excited onlookers. Leading the pack and racing blindly at the speed of a drunken snail was Mark Dehesa, who was holding up what appeared to be an offering to the Olympic gods: a stuffed lion.

Following closely behind was no other than torch bearer Onat Roldan, who shrewdly avoided the smoke detectors from going off as he proudly held up the Styrofoam-made symbol of hope. Kat Moldes, Chinkay Tuazon, Zeny Toledo, Tricci Alonzo and Mitzi Hilado also showed no signs of slowing down as they huffed and puffed all the way until the Entertainment Lounge where everyone was eagerly waiting.

A prayer, a pledge and a welcome speech later, it was time for the unveiling of our spanking new Foosball table. Looking like three boys on Christmas Day were Raul, Sir Gary and Dave who tore open the brightly wrapped table--the very reason why our pantry seems to be quite “crowded” nowadays.

Afterwards, each of the 24 teams were called up front to shout out their names. With team names like Joe d’Maggie, KatRhino Halinghing, Power Trip, The Mighty MegaPops and the Tabasco Hot Babes, it sure sounds like there’s going to be some tough competition out there!

JWT's favorite ECD Dave Ferrer turns a year younger today! With all the celebrants this month, it's a wonder why there still appears to be a cake and ice cream shortage in the office (hint, hint!!)

Say hello to our new Executive Planning Director Pam Garcia, who will be officially starting work tomorrow!

Pam previously worked in Lowe as a Planning Director whose work for Surf was twice recognized at the Unilever ABC Awards. Her career began as a journalist for Philippine Daily Inquirer before moving on to Leo Burnett as an Account Executive.

“Planning is one of the cornerstones of JWT worldwide. We are excited to have a thought leader of Pam's calibre on board", Jos shares. "She brings with her a very intimate understanding of the low and middle income consumers, who are the primary sources of business for most of our clients in the Philippines.”

Fooseball Fever hits JWT

With only days left till the big day, excited contestants are now clamoring to practice with the hope of taking home the elusive P10,000 grand prize.

People who have never played before are just discovering spinning skills that they never knew they had. With over 35 registrants playing for cold hard cash, it looks like the Fooseballympics will be the JWT event of the year!

And ahem! Look who we discovered to be good at scoring goals.

New Biz Day

There’s no business like new business!

It's been a great day for JWT after having just won the Cream Silk modern trade merchandising pitch on top of acquiring J&J brands Sinutab and Benadryl. According to Jos, “These two brands are part of J&J OTC's Upper Respiratory Category, which represents the biggest opportunity for growth for the J&J OTC franchise.”

Naturally, a pizza and beer party was in order!

Adobo Plate Football Tournament

If you see Onat and Katrina hobbling around the office with golden tans, it’s because they participated in the inaugural Adobo Plate Football Tournament, held last August 9 at the Esteban School Field. Composed of teams from BBDO, DM9, Saatchi, Ogilvy and Squatters United, the one-day tournament had a healthy dose of fun, camaraderie and teamwork.

Onat played keeper for Team Impaq (aka Squatters United), composed of football afficionados from different agencies who couldn’t muster enough members to form an agency team.

Katrina was the striker for her former agency and one can deduce that she’s a heck of a player to be “pirated” by Saatchi.

The dream is to form our very own Tabasco Football Club and represent the agency in the next tournament. C’mon peeps, let’s kick some balls!

Finance celebrates Sinful Friday

Looks like the big group lunches to celebrate the end of the week are becoming a trend in the office. Sir Gary treated his beloved department to yummy Chinese dishes like beef in broccoli sauce, lemon chicken and the inevitable sweet and sour pork. We wonder if their choice of cuisine had anything to do with the opening of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing today! Either way, 8/08/08 turned out to be a lucky day indeed for the Finance folks!

Friday Fiesta Lunch

Last August 1, BAT celebrated another one of its famous Sinful Friday lunches by inviting people from other departments to join in on the munching! Everyone came with their own contributions and hefty appetites. The result? A smorgasboard of gastronomic Pinoy favorites that had us rubbing our tummies in delight!
